Hello there, Retrofans!

We'd like to organize something for the AHX platform.
That might either be a compo or a cooperation-tune.

Please state here if you're interested and wanna participate.

Edit: Howto for AHX with Emulator (you could also scroll down).

Rapture:

It's a tracker-program for Amiga which emulates the SID chip.

Either WinUAE running an HD-Image somebody has prepared for you in advance (if you do not want to go through all the trouble yourself .. or probably the easiest, run Hivelytracker and save in native AHX format..

** Updated 31.10.2014 ** (Added some details on how to install Workbench, how to copy AHX to harddisk and how to use harddisk for saving)

--▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬--
H O W T O U S E A H X W I T H W I N U A E
--▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬--

Some (inclucing myself) still prefer the original AHX to Hivelytracker, hence this little guide on how to run AHX on an emulator.
Feel free to write me a pm for feedback etc.

This guide is intended for Window, might probably work for Linux-users under Wine aswell.

BEFORE STARTING
--▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬--

1.) Get WinUAE at http://www.winuae.net

2.) Install WinUAE

3.) Download AMIGA.zip (Rom-file, Workbench Installation-disks and AHX)

4.) Unpack the Zip Into WinUAE folder

Start WinUAE, click away the message and set configuration to:

(Note: Words in bold are found as categories in the Tree to the left of the Winuae-menu )

CPU: Set CPU to 68020
ROM: point to 3_1.ROM
RAM: set Chip to 2 and Fast to 4mb, Z3 Fast to 8 mb
Floppy drives: Activate all Floppies drives ( check them [√] )
Insert Workbench disk to floppy drive DF0
CD & Hard drives -> Hardfile -> Enter size (for example 50, click 'Create' ), save it to disk somewhere (Give anything as Label and Volume)

Click Configurations -> Enter a name -> click 'Save' (to secure your settings)

STARTING WORKBENCH AND FORMATTING HARDDISK
--▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬--

Click 'Start'

WinUAE boots from floppy to workbench.

Singleclick on the Desktop-icon of your harddisk, highlighting it.

Move the mousebutton to the white infoline on top.
Press right Button and keep pressing it, in the opening menu on top of the screen go to Icons -> Format Disk

Confirm 2 times that you really want to format.

Wait for the formatting to finish...

WORKBENCH INSTALLATION
--▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬--

For ease of use, I will try to give you a step by step tutorial.

Under Floppy drives insert the following disks into the (formerly activated, see above) four drives (with [...] buttons on the right):

"Workbench"(remains in drive), "Install", "Locale" and "Storage"
(there will be some swapping during installation, as it's 6 disks but only 4 drives)

Reset the machine (press F12, Click "Reset" in the lower left).

Amiga should reboot to workbench screen from disk.

Doubleclick on "Install" disk Icon
Doubleclick "Install"
Doubleclick on the Icon of your preferred language.

Click "Proceed"
Click on "Install 3.1"
Choose "Expert" (to be able to choose installation path).

"Proceed" until you are asked about the Installation-path:

In case your formerly created harddrive is chosen, click "Proceed".
Should your Floppy Disk be chosen instead, change it to your virtual harddisk via "no", clicking "show drives" and choosing your harddisk.

Choose your language ( check [√] )
Skip the printers
Choose your keymap ( check [√] )

Click "Proceed" -> Installation starts

At some point during the Installation WinUAE will ask for other disks, press F12 to get to menu and change the disk(s) accordingly under Floppy Drives.
Installation will continue by itself.

After a while the installation should complete.

Using AHX
--▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬--

Insert the AHX.ADF disk into a drive

A new Icon will appear (entitled "Opus created me!", because it was made with ADF Opus).
Double-click on it.

Double-click on AHX2

Hit enter.

AHX should start now.

You could also copy the AHX-content to harddrive first.
For that, open your harddisk on virtual desktop.
then leave the opened window and click on "Opus created me!", hold mouse button and drag the whole disk into the open folder of your harddisk. Yes, drag and drop works here, too.

Now you have a new folder called "Opus created me!" inside your harddrive folder.
You can rename it to "AHX" with the menu with Icons -> Rename while having the folder selected.

When you double click on the AHX folder now, you will see not much inside.
That is due to the most icons being hidden.
To unhide them, navigate to Window -> Show -> All Files with pressed mousebutton.

After doing so you can save these settings by navigating to Window -> Snapshot -> All
That will save the state the windows are in (at least from what I know)

After that you will see a file called AHX2 inside the folder.
Double click it, and press return in the command line that pops up.

Now AHX should start.

To enable sound, hit F12, go to Sound and set Sound emulation to "enabled".

In AHX press right mousebutton, "Project" -> "Load Module" -> Navigate to "Opus Created me!" and select "Songs" -> "Agony End" (for example)

Once loaded, hit "AltGr" to play and test if you have sound.

Now we want to use a Folder as an interface of AHX and Windows (put your favourite OS here).
Hardfile -> Add directory or Archive
Choose a label and name (for example you could choose "a" for both of them), select directory on your Computer. That Folder will now serve as a saving (and loading) place for songs inside AHX.

To save songs, you can also use the "Load State" / "Save State" feature in WinUAE under Miscellanous.

Note that you will have to load the respective configuration before you can load a saved state.

Settings for E-UAE 0.8.29 (Linux version of UAE, available as APT package)

MEMORY menu:
insert the kick 3.1 ROM file, chipmem 2mb, slowmem 1mb [for example...]

CPU menu:
CPU model 68020, 24-bit addressing
speed - adjustable, cycles: 5120

Otherwise default settings should be fine, be sure to have sound turned on.

Workbench installation is not needed.

Neither emulated hard disk is necessary but it is useful for saving files (you can add files to hard disk directory even when the emulation is running). In order to get emulated hard disk working go to the Hard disks menu:
Press "Add..." and select your preferred device name and directory from your real hard disk, give volume name DH0

Apparently a few arpeggios like this one seem to crash Hively even when just trying to play a note.

€: -removed pic-

@ silok: Recreating the instrument in an empty song seems to work.

A thread on the topic. Btw, someone mentions Draft-hawk on page 2

€2: Works now, had to rebuild all those arps with Hively inside the song.
