On the old nectarine, tunes by the same author were locked if you requested one tune by that author. Maybe it's worth re-introducing that (but not a very long lock time, if you do it).
However, it would probably be an even better idea and more effective to lock all remixes of a tune when it's queued for the next hour or so, to avoid something like Knucklebuster sessions etc.

wouldn't that in effect stop user-made artist sessions? or is that, actually, the goal?

That's why I would rather go for the second option.
